Alright, so I’m sitting here thinking about Norway’s latest move. They’re talking about putting the kibosh on new Bitcoin and crypto mining data centers. It’s like, boom! No more lights blinking away in a server farm. You know, I wonder if anyone saw that coming?
So the government, they’re saying it flat out—it’s better to toss that electricity to other sectors. Like, how many of us don’t even remember the last time we thought about where our power goes? Exactly. I was like, huh… who would’ve guessed?
Karianne Tung, the Minister for Digitalization and Public Administration (man, that’s a mouthful), she’s got her sights set on this. “Limit it as much as possible,” she says. Makes you think, doesn’t it? Maybe they’re onto something or maybe they’re just tired of the whole crypto craze. Who knows.
The Labour Party is like, okay, these mining guys are munching up tons of electricity and what do they give back? Nada much for the broader economy. That’s their angle anyway. I guess it might look different if you’re knee-deep in crypto, but from up top? Different story.
