To the editor: It’s concerning that Gov. Gavin Newsom’s podcast often features guests who capitalize on spreading division and anxiety. While the article “Yes, Newsom’s new podcast is cringe. But is it also smart?” highlights why Newsom may feel the need to engage with such figures, it’s crucial to recognize that amplifying their voices isn’t a bold or wise move. Newsom likely aims to resonate with that particular audience, but at what cost?
Hate and fear seem to thrive because they offer simple scapegoats for the complexities of life’s challenges. It’s all too easy to harbor resentment towards college attendees merely because you didn’t attend, or to fear immigrants for perceived personal shortcomings.
Interestingly, many of the admired figures within these circles are college-educated, and let’s not forget that immigrants have significantly contributed to the fabric of our nation. It’s time to move beyond a culture of blame and grievances. We need to unite and protect our democracy, ensuring its endurance for generations to come.

To the editor: Reading about Newsom’s interaction with Steve Bannon reminded me of Bannon’s persistent claims regarding the 2020 election. Here’s a thought for those who continue to dispute President Biden’s win: if Democrats were indeed so adept at manipulating the 2020 results, why wouldn’t they replicate that strategy in 2024?
