Oh boy, where to start with this one? So, Pixelle Specialty Solutions, this paper company over in the States, has dropped a real bombshell. They’re shutting down their Chillicothe Paper Mill – yep, curtains down by August 10, 2025. Or at least that’s what they’re saying, and honestly, who knows how this timeline will hold up?
They’re doing this slowly though, bit by bit, moving stuff to Spring Grove, which is in Pennsylvania. I guess they think it’s better there… or maybe they couldn’t find anywhere else to go. Anyway, it seemed fitting to let everyone know. They’ve sent out these WARN Act notices to the folks working there, which sounds all official, but basically means they’re giving them a heads-up that things are changing. End of an era stuff, right?
They even said if they can’t sell the plant, which, let’s be real, who’s lining up to buy an old paper mill these days? They’ll just hand it off to JobsOhio or some governmental body. Probably for a pittance, just to keep it from rotting away. Can’t help but wonder who’ll step up for that piece of “prime real estate.”
Since back in April, Pixelle’s been tossing ideas around like a hot potato, trying to find some miracle to keep the place running. But, as you can guess, when there isn’t enough staff or people lining up for what you’re selling, it’s kinda hard to keep the lights on.
They’re promising to sort of look after the folks who’ll be out of a job. Not exactly sure what that means, but let’s hope it’s more than a pat on the back. There are talks with JobsOhio about what comes next, trying to fix up the site for the future. You know, the typical stuff big companies say when they’re about to leave a gaping hole in a community.
Pixelle’s main digs are in Spring Grove, PA, and they roll with H.I.G. Capital, some big global investment firm. Why does that matter? Not sure, but it somehow always makes its way into these announcements.
Anyway, this wasn’t meant to be advice or anything. Just info tossed out there for anyone curious about why the mill will be switching off the lights soon. So… yeah, there it is.
