To the editor: In a recent letter, a writer argued that Vice President Kamala Harris lost the election due to the Democrats failing to critically assess the party’s weaknesses and Harris’ “shortcomings.” (“The leader of the Democratic Party? Not Kamala Harris,” letters, Dec. 23).
Another perspective suggests that many voters were not in favor of Harris winning because they wanted someone who could give concise answers, implying this means less than 500 words. Yet, does this writer truly believe that President-elect Donald Trump answers questions succinctly? His responses often stretch into lengthy monologues, filled with digressive thoughts that barely form complete sentences.
It’s not a matter of Americans rejecting the idea of a Black woman as president. The reality seems to be that Trump supporters prefer a leader with authoritarian tendencies, who empowers them to openly express their underlying sentiments, which endears him to them.
This scenario paints a rather dispiriting picture of the state of our current and future civilization.
